Welcome to this
site. Here rest the archives of Yavcon guitars.
Yavcon began in the philosophy that necessity
is the mother of invention.
Being born in
1974 assured me one thing; that my teenage musical imprints would be dominated by the late 80s/early 90s metal scene. Thats
where I was exposed for the first time to BC Rich guitars. I never was one for conventionality, and fell for the radically
designed shapes, such as the Bich and Warlock. The small family run shop that had pioneered a generation of guitars with neck-through
construction and active electronics in the mid seventies and early eighties was to be the first half of the inspiration I
needed. The second came when I found myself looking into buying my first high quality guitar. What I found was that the corporate
take over of the industry has diminished the attention to detail that I longed for. The solution was simple. I would build
my own.
Having no professional training proved to be
more than my trial and error budget could handle. I went to the source of my inspiration for help and advice. For over ten
years Neal Moser had been a major player in the glory-days of BC
Rich. In addition to being in charge of the assembly and setups, he also designed shapes, pioneered guitar electronics, and
developed a reputation as a great luthier. Known for his line of Moser guitars and his association with GMW guitars, Neal
has produced, modified, and repaired guitars for some of the worlds most notable musicians. He proved to be the ultimate resource;
patient, knowledgeable, and completely unselfish in his time. With the help of he and others I was able to produce a small
line of custom handmade guitars. Yavcon was born.
During a two year run I produced ten guitars
that bare Yavcon logos and serial numbers. During that time I remained in close contact with Neal, and we became good friends.
Neal stepped back into the buisness and is once again producing absolute top shelf product. Moser Custom Shop is the
template for what a custom handmade guitar shop should be. The years of experience, the attention to detail, and the sheer
willpower to buck conformity and produce guitars that truly push the design envelope is everything I wanted for Yavcon.
I am pleased to announce that Yavcon guitars
will be no more. They will be under the umbrella of the Moser effort. The shapes will be available through and as MCS
guitars. I will still play a part in the rough constructions, specializing in the multi-laminate options I have come to love
and be known for. This will take the time demands of laminating and roughing off Neal, and allow him to do what he does best
- adding a lifetime of experience, and giving it the touch!
Thanks for all of the support and kind words.
See you at the MCS,
Ken Patin.
